6 Simple Travel Tips for a Short Getaway from Singapore

I’ve been seeing quite a number of my friends on IG jet-setting off on short getaways, and honestly? I’m a little jealous! Hehe it makes me kind of miss my freelancing days, when I had the freedom to just fly off to wherever I wanted to.

So let me share with you what I've learned from all my travels, be it a solo trip, a family trip or a trip with friends! Here's 7 useful tips for a short getaway from Singapore.

Travel Tip 1: Travel light by bringing samples/travel size toiletries.

What better way is there to travel light than to bring samples or travel sized versions of your travel essentials?

SAMPLES OF TRAVEL ESSENTIALS:
Samples of skin care or makeup products can really help to save space and weight. You can even toss them away after you're done with it, so you can get more space to store your hauls!

TRAVEL SIZED BOTTLES OF TRAVEL ESSENTIALS:
If you prefer to go the more eco-friendly route, bring your essentials in travel sized silicon bottles, which are totally squishable once you empty them out. You'd still get more space in your luggage at the end of the trip!

What I don't recommend doing is to purchase travel versions of products like those $2 bottles of shampoo you see in drugstores. It's such a waste of your money and of plastic! If you do that, you might as well go buy reusable silicon bottles and bring along your own shampoo and whatnot.

If you don’t have travel-sized items or samples that you need to bring on your short getaway, you can visit Sample Store to grab some free samples now. I’ve written a review and how-to guide on this useful website, check it out here:

Bangkok, Thailand, seems like a really popular spot lately. Or maybe that's what IG's pushing out on my feed, so that's all I see... but anyway, for a trip to the hot and humid Bangkok, Thailand, I’d definitely recommend skincare products! Travel essentials such as facial cleanser, moisturiser and sun screen.

Travel Tip 2: Bring samples of makeup!

This next part about makeup is mostly for the girls out there, but some guys can consider it too. After all, it's already 2019. There are even brands who use guys as their spokesperson for makeup products.

Anyway, a friend of mine (who's currently a resident of Bangkok) swears that wearing makeup helps to protect her skin from air pollution! It sounds a little odd, but she does look amazing, so I won't totally disregard her words.

Apparently, makeup will create a layer between your skin and those air nasties, thereby keeping the pores clean! But this means that you'll have to double cleanse thoroughly- no accidentally falling asleep with makeup on!

Sample Store also has makeup products, including BB cream, which has been my go-to product for the past few years!

Travel Tip 3: Stay organised with a list
    • Short getaways are usually pretty spontaneous. Use a checklist to help you pack, so you don't forget anything!
Travel Tip 4: Maximise luggage space
    • Maximise luggage space by rolling your clothes instead of folding them. They aren't likely to crease if you roll them correctly!
    • You can also stuff your socks into shoes if you're bringing more than one pair of shoes.
    • Or, you can make use of packing cubes, too. I find that packing cubes aren't as effective as rolling, but they do keep things sooo neat!

Travel Tip 5: Bring along a recyclable/foldable bag
    • Bring along a recyclable/foldable bag for all the shopping that you'll be doing! Not only is this eco-friendly and can even look stylish, you'll be thankful that you don't have to struggle with many little bags.
      Travel Tip 6: Bring medication
      • If you have regular medication, bring it along! But what I meant was, bring along po chai or charcoal pills for diarrhoea, in case the street food doesn't agree with you!
      • You can also bring along pain medications for when it's that time of the month, or flu medicine, because it sucks to be sick when you're on vacay! Especially since you're going on a short trip- every second counts, and you don't want to spend any moment being sick.
